"The Key to Improving Math & Reading Skills"
KMW GRAPHIC / ARTS
Youth Net provides homework help and math and reading
instruction and tutoring to students, in grades K – 12, in the
Washington, D.C. Metropolitan area through L.O.C.K.. The math
and reading software used at the L.O.C.K. are from Renaissance
Learning, Inc. The software is curriculum-based and has been
proven nationally to have a positive effect on student’s math and
reading performance.
The Accelerated Math software includes grade level math libraries
from first grade to calculus with objectives based on state and
national requirements. Students are given pretests to determine
their current grade levels. Individual work plans are developed for
each student and objectives are assigned based on the pretests
for students to master. As students master an objective, they are
tested on the concepts learned and new objectives are assigned.
If a student is having difficulty in a given area, the software alerts
the staff to the problem for follow-up.
The Accelerated Reading software allows students to take a
reading practice, vocabulary practice, or literacy skills quiz on
books read. These quizzes allow teachers to determine how
students comprehend information from books read. The Early
Literacy software allows beginning readers to have a book read to
them and then take a quiz on what they comprehend.
